I have a Jean MACCALLUM (my3x great grandmother) who married Duncan MCFAIL about 1770.Thet had 6 children- John MCFAIL being the son to which my father John SMITH descends. All the MCFAIL/MCPHAIL and SMITH ancestors of mine seem to come from Kilmartin and Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig and seem to have been mainly fishermen. Sorry I can't help with the exact nature of your query, but I suspect that Jean is a member of your MACCALLUM ancestors.

The farthest back we have gone with our geneology is 1790's on the Isle of Jura. Our family names there were Henderson, Livingston,Shaw and Darroch. I would love to know more about them I think they were Shepherds.I wonder if there is a church there and if they would share records with me. thanks Jane Boyd
