Just starting on my husbands side of the family. McPhails - Lachlan MCphail married Agnes McGilp and came to Greenock at some point. Family names include Edward, Peter, Lachlan. One census says Lochgilphead - one says Glassary. Have found a few bapts but they list mother as Ann McGilp instead as Agnes. So unsure at present if I have correct family. Are Agnes and Ann interchangeable????

My family tree has been traced back to Argyll and I am wondering if there are still any McHones still living in that area. I realize that the spelling of the name could have been changed somewhat upon their arrival in the U.S., but if anyone has any information for me....please write! Thank you.
