1. John¹ Gillies was born in Kilmartin, Argyll, Scotland abt 1807. John died June 06, 1863 in Nassagaweya Twp., ONT., CAN., at 55 years of age.

He married Isabella McPhail in Kilmartin, Argyll, Scotland, abt 1828. Isabella was born in Kilmartin, Argyll, Scotland abt 1808. Isabella was the daughter of Archibald "Maclachlin" McPhail and Lillias Mackenzie. Isabella died August 28, 1876 in Nassagaweya Twp., ONT., CAN., at 68 years of age.

John Gillies and Isabella McPhail had the following children:

+ 4 iii. Lillie Gillies was born Abt. 1833.

5 iv. Donald Gillies was born Abt 1837. Donald died January 15, 1860 at 22 years of age.

+ 6 v. Archibald Gillies was born May 1838.

7 vi. Margaret Gillies was born April 1841.

8 vii. John Gillies was born in Nassagaweya Twp., ONT., CAN. October 20, 1843. John died August 15, 1905 in Teeswater, Ontario, Canada, at 61 years of age.

9 viii. Hugh Gillies was born in Nassagaweya Twp., ONT., CAN. Abt 1846.

10 ix. Mary Gillies was born in Nassagaweya Twp., ONT., CAN. January 1850. Mary died July 27, 1850 at less than one year of age.
