Unfortunately I can't link up to your McPhails - I have Catherine McPhail born 1828 (not sure yet of the area in Scotland) died 9 April 1912 in Sydney Australia married 1857 to Alexander Mackay in Edingburgh and arrived Aus. in 1858 Catherine and Alexander Mackay had seven children in Australia and were my gt. grandparents. Catherine McPhails parents were Robert McPhail and Margaret Sutherland.
